Microsoft Edge May Soon Auto-Launch Copilot

Here's what you need to know

Microsoft continues to double down on AI—and the next step could change the way you use your web browser.

Right now, if you want to use Copilot in Microsoft Edge, you have to manually click the icon in the sidebar. But Microsoft is testing a new feature that would automatically launch Copilot whenever you open Edge or start a new tab.

That means your AI assistant could soon be ready and waiting—every time you browse.

A Shift Toward AI as a Daily Tool

Some users will love the added convenience. Others may find it a little too present. Either way, this move signals something bigger: Microsoft wants Copilot to become part of your everyday browsing experience.

Another feature being tested is an “Ask Copilot” button in the Settings menu. This could be especially helpful for non-technical users. Stuck trying to change a setting in Edge? Just ask Copilot for help, and it may guide you directly to the solution.

How Your Business Could Benefit

If your team uses Microsoft Edge, here are a few ways these AI upgrades could make a real difference:

Faster Troubleshooting
Instead of Googling an issue or calling IT, users can ask Copilot for immediate help.

Always-Ready AI Support
Need to summarize a long article, brainstorm a reply, or write a quick email? Copilot would always be just a click away.

Smarter Security
Microsoft is also testing a new “Scareware Blocker”, an AI-powered feature that helps detect and block scam websites in real time—adding a layer of protection against malicious content.

What’s the Catch?

Of course, this is still being tested in Edge Canary, Microsoft’s experimental browser build. Not all features tested there make it into the final product—but given Microsoft’s push toward AI, this one has a strong chance of sticking.

But there are a few things to consider:

🔒 Privacy Concerns – If Copilot is always on, will it always be listening? Microsoft hasn’t shared full details yet, so it’s worth keeping an eye on how they implement this.

⚙️ User Control – Ideally, users will have the ability to toggle this feature on or off depending on their preferences.

Final Thoughts

If done right, auto-open Copilot in Edge could be a helpful tool for business users—offering real-time assistance, better productivity, and smarter protection.

If done poorly, it could feel invasive or distracting.

At Anthem Technology, we help businesses make sense of tools like Copilot, and get the most out of the AI features that can truly drive efficiency and security.
